Flinders Shire Council is proposing to adopt a new Planning Scheme for Flinders Shire:

The Shire of Flinders Planning Scheme 2017

This new Planning Scheme will replace the existing Flinders Shire Council Planning Scheme, amended April 2016.

The proposed Draft Planning Scheme is available for inspection at Council’s offices at, 34 Gray Street, Hughenden during normal office hours.

Council will present the Draft Planning Scheme at a Public Meeting to be held at the Diggers Entertainment Centre, Brodie Street Hughenden on Wednesday 22 February 2017 at 6.00pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.


Written submissions about any aspect of the proposed Planning Scheme can be made by any person:

  • in writing;
  • signed by each person who has made the submission;
  • stating the name and address of each person who has made a submission; and
  • stating the facts and circumstances relied on to support the grounds of the submission.
  • all submissions must be addressed to: The Chief Executive Officer, Flinders Shire Council, PO Box 274, Hughenden QLD 4821
  • submissions can also be made via email to flinders@flinders.qld.gov.au.


The closing date for submissions is 25 March 2017.

Regional Development Australia - Building Better Regions Funding Announcement

    RDA T&NWQ welcomes the Australian Government announcement of the Building Better Regions Fund (BRRF) to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities into the future.

The $297.7 million BBRF will run over four years from 2016-17 and 2019-20 funding projects in regional Australia outside the major capital cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra.

There are two streams of funding available under the program which opens on 28 January 2017:
•    The Infrastructure Projects Stream - applications close 28 February 2017.
•    The Community Investments Stream - applications close 31 March 2017.

BBRF information session will be held in Townsville on 2 February 2017 at 10:00am - registration via Business.gov.au. RDA T&NWQ in conjunction with AusIndustry will look to hold regional workshops next year.

Local Government and not for profit organisations are eligible to apply.

Remote or very remote applications require a reduced amount of partner funding - at a 1:3 ratio.
Applicants can now apply for co-funding exemption, to seek exemption a supporting case with evidence demonstrating the exceptional circumstances must been presented.

The Infrastructure Projects Stream will supporting projects which involve the construction of new infrastructure, or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure that provide economic and social benefits.
The minimum grant amount is $20,000 and the maximum is $10 million.
Projects must be completed by 31 December 2019.

The Community Investment Stream will fund community building activities including, but not limited to, new or expanded local events, strategic regional plans, and leadership and capability building activities. These projects will delivery economic benefits to regional and remote communities.
The minimum grant amount is $5,000 and the maximum grant amount is $10 million. 
Projects must be completed within 12 months of executing the grant agreement with the Commonwealth and by 31 December 2019.
