Upcoming First Aid and CPR Courses in Hughenden

Health and Fitness Expo comes to Hughenden on Monday February 13, 2012! The official opening of the new Fitness Equipment and 10,000 Steps Eco-walk Signs. Event includes free snack and juice bar, personal trainers, excercise physiologist and prize giveaways.  Located at Robert Gray Park on Little Avenue (opposite the Hughenden Bowls Club), there will be two sessions - one at 3.30pm for high school students and one at 5pm for adults. Council is still seeking applicants for the 2012 Council University Scholarship. Council provides a $5,000 per annum University Scholarship for the duration of the successful applicant’s full-time studies towards a Bachelor degree in either Environmental Health, Civil Engineering, or Accounting (or another approved course). As part of this Scholarship, Council also offers paid work experience during University holiday breaks. More info contact Council on 47412900

Flinders Shire Library will have 150 new books and DVDs for loan from Thursday February 9 as part of their quarterly exchange with the State Library of Queensland.  These titles will be across a range of genres.

Check out the new look Flinders Discovery Centre! Open 9am to 5pm, seven days a week, closed only Christmas Day and Good Friday (from November to March: open 9am to 1pm on Saturdays and Sunday, with normal hours during the week).

Entry fees to the display area are $5.00 per adult and $2 for children aged 5 – 12 years.  Pre-booked groups of 25 adults or more are at a set price of $112.50.

Pool opening hours have extended, with swimmers now welcome Monday to Friday 6am-10:30am and 1:30pm-7pm, Saturday 11am-6pm and Sunday 1pm-6pm.

There are now also options for family fun nights and weekend birthday parties and there is also a swimming club. Councillor nominations open on March 10 and close March 27.

There are six Councillor positions to be elected on April 28 - an additonal two from the previous Council. Current Mayor, Brendan McNamara is also stepping down.
