Key items discussed at the March 2024 Council meeting included:

  • For the final meeting for the 2020-2024 Council term, the Council reflected on the achievements and challenges of the past four years
  • We remember and provide condolences to the families of Karen Cormack (wife of Dr Ian Cormack), Jacko Loughnan, and John Kenna
  • Five new university scholarships awarded in the Second Round of Council’s scholarship program. This is brings the total number of students being supported with scholarships to 8. We wish all our scholarship recipients all the best with their studies
  • Draft of the 2023-24 Local Government 2023 report has been released by the Auditor-General
  • Letter received from new Premier of Queensland confirming Queensland Government commitment of $25.6 million towards the Hughenden Off-stream Water Project
  • Noted the planning application approval subject to conditions being met
  • Farewelled Councillor Clarence (Clarrie) Haydon who will be retiring after 16 years of service to Flinders Shire Council
  • Adopted the Financial Report for February 2024
  • Application to be submitted to MoveIt NQ to support Hot Shot and Cardio Tennis Programs, and to trial the Hughenden Walking Club
  • Application to be submitted through the Seniors Social Isolation Program for the Flinders Shire Seniors Wellbeing Program.
