Flinders Shire Council appoints new Chief Executive Officer

Flinders Shire Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Kylie Davies as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Ms Davies will commence in the role on 13 April following a successful national recruitment process.

Mayor Cr Kate Peddle said Council was delighted to unanimously endorse Ms Davies’ appointment after an extensive and highly competitive selection process.

“Following a nationwide search that attracted a strong field of high-quality applicants, Council’s selection panel shortlisted and interviewed several outstanding candidates,” Mayor Peddle said.

“The recruitment process attracted 44 applications from across the country – a fantastic endorsement of Flinders Shire Council and the strength and opportunity within our region.

“Kylie stood out for her strong executive leadership experience, deep understanding of regulatory and planning frameworks, and her proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in complex local government environments.”

Ms Davies brings significant senior executive and management experience across local government, state government and the private sector, with responsibility for regulatory services, planning, environmental management and strategic growth projects.

Currently serving as Director Regulatory Services at the Town of Port Hedland in Western Australia, Ms Davies leads a directorate encompassing town planning, economic development, environmental health and ranger services, while supporting executive governance, financial oversight and organisational assurance functions.

Her career includes leading the development and adoption of a regional planning scheme, implementing legislative reforms under the Planning Act 2016 within the Queensland Government, and directing strategic growth and regulatory compliance projects across Queensland and Western Australia.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws from James Cook University, is admitted as a Legal Practitioner to the Supreme Court of Queensland, and has completed a Graduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning and a Master of Business Administration.

Mayor Peddle said Ms Davies’ breadth of experience and governance expertise would be a strong asset for the Shire.

“Council is confident that Kylie’s leadership, strategic capability and commitment to regional communities will help guide Flinders Shire through its next phase of growth and opportunity,” said Mayor Peddle.

Mayor Peddle added that Ms Davies is a proud North Queenslander and Council is delighted to welcome her home.

“We couldn’t be happier that Kylie is returning to North Queensland and choosing to dedicate her skills and experience to our Shire,” she said.

Council also extended its thanks to Interim CEO Bruce Davidson for his leadership during the transition period.
