Flinders Shire Council is seeking a reliable and experienced Tractor Slasher Operator / Labourer to join our Engineering Services team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating plant and machinery and contributing to the maintenance of roads, public areas and infrastructure across the Flinders Shire.

Predominantly based within the Road Maintenance team, the successful applicant will be responsible for the safe and competent operation of Council plant and fleet, including tractor slashing operations, as well as undertaking a range of hands-on road maintenance and general labouring duties.

You will be part of a practical and supportive team, with a strong focus on safety, teamwork, quality service delivery and maintaining Council's infrastructure to a high standard.

Employment Status:  Permanent Fulltime

Award:   The position is classified at Level 5 under the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream B) Award – State 2017, as amended or replaced.

Remuneration: $73,873.80 gross per annum, plus applicable allowances.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have:

Essential Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Competent and safe operation of plant and fleet vehicles for which the operator holds the required licences and has been authorised to operate, undertaking duties up to and including their engaged level in accordance with the Queensland Local Government Award, as amended or replaced.
  • Hands on labouring within road maintenance such as installing road signs, guideposts, weed management, digging trenches, removing debris, preparing and applying asphalt, loading and unloading trucks, traffic control (as authorised) and prepare work sites in accordance with traffic and other management plans.
  • Undertake work activities as directed to achieve Council Operational and Strategic Plans.
  • Maintenance of assigned plant/fleet and work cohesively with the workshop in maintaining plant/fleet.
  • Ensuring all daily checks of plant/fleet are completed and advising of repairs or maintenance requirements.
  • Ensuring plant/fleet are well presented, tidy and secured.
  • Provide high level of customer service on behalf of Council ensuring a positive reflection with members of the public is maintained.
  • Develop and maintain positive communications between Council departments and teams including participation in team or Council meetings.
  • Sharing of knowledge and skills between team members.
  • Completion of paperwork and submitted on time including accurate timesheets with job costing codes and health and safety related items.
  • Maintain currency of licences/tickets for duration of employment as required to undertake allocated work tasks/activities.

Essential Education/Qualifications/Licences

  • Current MR Class Driver Licence with a good driving history.
  • Current General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
  • Current plant/machinery licences, tickets or verified competencies relevant to the equipment being operated.
