Flinders Shire Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Open Spaces and Community Assets Coordinator to lead the delivery, maintenance and continuous improvement of our parks, gardens, recreational facilities, community assets and Council-operated enterprises. This diverse and rewarding role plays a key part in enhancing community liveability, supporting tourism, and ensuring our public spaces remain safe, attractive and well maintained.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Coordinate the maintenance and presentation of parks, gardens, cemeteries, public amenities, recreational facilities and other community assets.
  • Lead and support operational staff, contractors and facility managers to achieve service delivery outcomes.
  • Act as Council's Aerodrome Manager, providing oversight of compliance, safety and operational requirements for Hughenden Airport.
  • Oversee the performance and operational management of Council-owned facilities including the caravan park, swimming pool, community gym, landfill and worker accommodation.
  • Coordinate local laws service delivery and provide operational support to the Local Laws Officer.
  • Manage maintenance programs, budgets, contractor performance and asset improvement initiatives.
  • Engage with community groups, sporting clubs, airport stakeholders and residents to deliver positive community outcomes.

Employment status: Permanent Fulltime

Remuneration: $120,000 gross per annum, subsidised accommodation, vehicle for private and business use. 

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have:

Essential knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating the maintenance and operation of open spaces, community assets, recreation facilities, public amenities, or similar infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to supervise staff and manage contractors, service providers, and service delivery outcomes to achieve operational objectives.
  • Experience managing contracts, service agreements, compliance requirements, performance monitoring, and contractor reporting.
  • Sound knowledge of parks and open space maintenance, irrigation systems, community asset operations, workplace health and safety, and risk management practices.
  • Strong organisational, planning, budget monitoring, problem-solving, and customer service skills, with the ability to manage complex enquiries and operational issues effectively.
  • Well-developed communication and administrative skills, including the ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, contracts, and relevant legislation, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, records management, and asset/work management systems. 
Essential licences
  • Current unrestricted C Class driver licence
  • Current Construction Industry White Card or willingness to obtain
