Mosquito Controls
Queensland Health has responsibility under the Public Health Act 2005 for the control of notifiable communicable diseases in Queensland, including mosquito-borne diseases. Queensland Health's Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Unit along with Public Health Units work in partnership with state and local government to ensure effective and sustainable mosquito management programs are in place and any outbreaks are controlled.
Local governments in Queensland administer and enforce the Public Health Act 2005 and Public Health Regulation 2005 which deal with public health risks from designated pests such as mosquitoes.
The key steps in any mosquito-borne disease prevention and control program include:
- community education and engagement
- disease surveillance and research
- mosquito control.
