Key items discussed at the December 2022 Council meeting included:

  • Council remembered the contributions of both Peter Hoey (former Councillor and Business Owner) and Peter Carrington (Rondel Droughtmaster Stud) and send condolences to both families at this time
  • Adopted the North West Queensland Regional Biosecurity Plan 2023-2027
  • Received $10,000 through the Local Government Illegal Dumping Partnerships Program Round 2B, for compliance-related data collection activities related to illegal dumping
  • Show day holiday for Hughenden Show is 2nd June 2023
  • Offered no objection to five applications for conversion to freehold on the condition that wild dogs and noxious weeds are controlled and that the landholder be actively encouraged to participate in the ‘Good Neighbour Program’
  • Three Councillors to attend the Local Government of Queensland Bush Council’s Convention in Goondiwindi in July 2023
  • Application to be submitted to the Walking Local Government Grant  program to develop maps and strategy for a walking network plan for all townships in the Shire
  • Council awarded 1 traineeship and 2 apprenticeships through the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative
  • A development application for short term accommodation proposal (8 x 1 bedroom units) at 18 Resolution St, Hughenden was approved subject to all conditions and requirements being met
  • Approved the sale of Lot 42 within the Hughenden Industrial Estate
  • Sponsorship and donations to be provided to the Hughenden Show Society for the 2023 Hughenden Show and Field Days of $20,000 and the Hughenden Lions Club for Community Christmas Light Competition prizes of $500
  • Noted the minutes of the Audit Committee meeting on 5 December 2022
  • Four contracts awarded under the 2022 Flood Damage Restoration Works program on various shire roads to local contractors.
