Outback Friday Shirt Design Competition 2023
Flinders Shire Council is pleased to announce the new 'Outback Friday Shirt Design Competition' is open from Friday 16 December 2022 until Friday 10 February 2023.
This is your chance to show off your creativity and design the next Outback Friday shirt for our community.
Council is looking for creative designs which showcase the unique features of our Shire. This could be our people, landscape, industry, or local history - let your imagination and creativity take over!
The winner of the Outback Friday Shirt Design Competition will have their design featured on the 2023 Outback Friday shirt, which will be retailed at the Flinders Discovery Centre.
The winning submission will receive a Flinders Shire 'Shop Local Gift Card' valued at $500 and a 2023 Outback Friday shirt featuring the new design.
The iconic Outback Friday shirt has become a uniform for Flinders locals, and a unique souvenir for visitors.
Design Guidelines
- The design must include the words "Hughenden/Prarie/Torrens Creek & Stamford"
- The design is to cover the front, back, and sides of the shirt. The shirt size is to be a collared polo shirt and a collared long sleeve.
- The design should complement the colour palette of the Shire’s regional branding ‘Outback Town, Endless Horizons’ and include both Shire Logo and ‘Outback town, Endless Horizons’ (both pictured below).
Submission Guidelines
- Submission to include:
- High resolution design images submitted as a .jpg, .png, .pdf, .ai, or .psd file
- Background/statement about the design
- Artist biography and contact details (full name, email and phone number)
- Submission to be sent to Chanelle Viney on fdcc@flinders.qld.gov.au by 5pm Friday 10 February 2023.
Eligibility/Entry
There is no entry fee to submit a design. Multiple designs are accepted per person. Entrants under the age of 18 will require submission by a parent or guardian on their behalf.
It is a condition of entry that the entrant provides consent for the use of their name and photo of the design for use in marketing and promotion of the competition.
Competition Judging
Flinders Shire Council will establish a judging panel to shortlist designs based on the following selection criteria:
- Originality – is the design different to previous Outback Friday shirts
- Visibility – is it eye-catching and visible from a distance
- Regional promotion – does the design clearly promote key features of the Flinders Shire region and align to branding guidelines
- Feasibility – does the design have the ability to be reproduced?
Shortlisted designs will go to a public vote via the Hughenden Connect (Flinders Shire Council) Facebook page.
The winner will be selected based on the design with the most number of votes by the closing period.
The winner of the competition will be notified by phone or email within two business days of voting closure.
Flinders Shire Council will announce the winning submission via Council’s e-newsletter, and Hughenden Connect (Flinders Shire Council) Facebook page.

- Competition opens: Friday 16 December 2022

- Shortlisting of submissions: 13-17 February 2023
- Public vote (Hughenden Connect Facebook Page): 20-24 February 2023 (closes 5 pm)
- Announcement of winner: 5pm Friday 24 February 2023
Terms and Conditions
By submitting an entry to the ‘Outback Friday Shirt Design Competition’, the artist consents that it is their own original work and that they have all necessary rights and permissions to use any included elements.
The Flinders Shire Council reserves the right to adjust and alter the winning entry if required.
The winning artist grants the Flinders Shire Council the exclusive right to the design, including any modifications thereof, to be used on promotional/marketing materials and other Flinders Shire Council materials without any compensation other than the above-mentioned prize ($500 Shop Local voucher).
The artist shall indemnify, defend and hold harmless the Flinders Shire Council from and against any and all suits, actions, claims, damages, liabilities, judgments, losses and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of any violation of third party rights (including, without limitation, intellectual property infringement, misappropriation, dilution or violation) in connection with the Flinders Shire Council use, distribution, publishing, sale or exploitation of the design.
It is a condition of entry that the entrant consents to Flinders Shire Council using the entrant’s name and image in the event they are the winner (including photograph, film and/or recording of the same) in any media for an unlimited period without remuneration for the purpose of the Competition (including any outcome), and promoting any products and services, distributed and/or supplied by Flinders Shire Council.
The prize will be valid for twelve months. The prize is not exchangeable or transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash. Card can be used for multiple purchases; any unused value of the card will become void.
Flinders Shire Council’s decision is final, and no other correspondence will be entered into.
Profanity
No elements of the design may not contain any profanity, offensive language or offensive graphics. Flinders Shire Council reserves the right to withhold any design deemed inappropriate from the competition.
Terminate or Cancel Competition
If this Competition is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the Competition to the full extent permitted by law and subject to any approval or directions from a regulatory authority.
