Key items discussed at the January 2023 Council meeting included:

  • Council farewelled Linda Bell from the Flinders Shire Council. We thank Linda for her generosity and kindness to the community and Council over the past 7 years.
  • Council to accept invitation to attend the Western Queensland Alliance of Councils Assembly in Winton on 26–28 September 2023
  • One Councillor to attend the Northern Australia Food Futures Conference in Darwin in May 2023
  • Discussion on letter from The Hon. Bob Katter MP in relation to announcement by The Hon. Tanya Plibersek MP to add biological control agent for prickly acacia to the List of Specimens Taken to be Suitable for Live Import. Letter of thanks to be sent to the Minister and MP for advising of this initiative
  • Discussion on motion submission to the 2023 National General Assembly in Canberra in June 2023 on priority issues of housing, water and road funding. Council to seek input from North West Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils and the Western Alliance of Councils
  • Discussion regarding Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot (NQ Pilot), which is a trial program to be run in 37 different Local Government Areas across North Queensland
  • Adopted the December 2022 financial report and Quarter 1 Operational Plan progress report
  • Offered no objection to the erection of a temporary wind monitoring mast on Glendower Station, Glentor–Prairie Road on the provision that all due diligence requirements are met by the applicant
  • Alyss St water tank mural is a finalist in the Australia Street Art Competition (Rural Art category). Winner to be announced on 17 February 2023
  • Discussion on flooding in Prairie and investigation to be undertaken into potential short- and long-term mitigation strategies and funding opportunities.
