The inaugural Hughenden Festival of Outback Skies is proud to announce a new addition to its impressive line-up of events this April – a unique and exciting art sculpture competition for budding artists across Australia.

Open to both amateur and professional artists, both local and non-local, this competition is a fantastic opportunity for artists to showcase their talent and creativity.

Entrants are encouraged to draw inspiration from the beautiful and diverse outback landscapes of the Flinders Shire, which will serve as the backdrop for their works of art.

All entries will take pride of place on the Art Trail that connects the historic Coolibah Tree with the Showgrounds and Recreational Lake.

With a total prize pool of $13,000, this competition is sure to attract a diverse range of entries from talented artists across the country.

Entries close at midnight on 19 March, and the winners will be announced as part of the festival, which will take place in Hughenden from 28-30 April.

“Here in the Flinders Shire, we love to tell a yarn or two through art,” said Mayor Jane McNamara.

“Sculptures play an important role in our story telling journey and you can this see through our public art pieces sprinkled through the community.

“The Festival of Outback Skies is a celebration of the unique beauty and cultural heritage of the Flinders Shire, and this art sculpture competition is a perfect way to showcase the talents of artists and bring together the local and broader community.”

Artists can win one of two categories on offer:

  • Acquisitive Prize ($10,000)
  • People’s Choice ($3,000).

Artists interested in participating in the competition can download an artist information pack from the Hughenden Festival of Outback Skies website.

The pack includes all the information they need to know, including competition rules, entry guidelines, and judging criteria.

The new festival will feature an array of live music, workshops, markets, food and art, as well as a bull ride and other entertainment over the long weekend.
