Excitement is building as the countdown begins for the inaugural Hughenden Festival of Outback Skies, which will take place from 28-30 April.

The latest exciting addition to the festival program is the newly-announced Fox Helicopters Celebrity BBQ Cook-off competition, where KAP State Leader and Member for Traeger Robbie Katter will compete against Flinders Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Hari Boppudi.

The cook-off will take place on Sunday 30 April at Hughenden Showgrounds, and promises to be a fun-filled event for all to enjoy.

“This is a great initiative creating an exciting event for the North West at the beginning of the tourism season,” said Mr Katter.

“I’ll be there to prove my wife wrong and show that I can cook in the BBQ cooking comp.”

In addition to the BBQ competition, the festival will feature an array of live music, workshops, markets, food and art, as well as a bull ride and other entertainment over the long weekend.

The bull ride has seen overwhelming demand, while tickets have been selling fast for the Dinner Under the Stars and other exciting events across the weekend.

"The Festival of Outback Skies is a celebration of the unique beauty and cultural heritage of the Flinders Shire,” said Mayor Jane McNamara.

“With just over a week left until the festival, excitement is at an all-time high, and we’re thrilled with the ticket and accommodation sales, and huge interest in this inaugural event.

“I’d also like to include a special mention to all our sponsors and supporters who have made this event possible.

“The festival is both for the local community and visitors to our region, and will showcase the big outback skies and stunning landscape of our Shire.

“Our message is don't miss out on this exciting event – come and join us for the first-ever Hughenden Festival of Outback Skies!”
