CNVM Investment Pty Ltd recently met with Flinders Shire Council to confirm that the $200 million proposed meat processing plant project for the region had reached the Final Investment Decision (FID) stage for Stage 1 of construction.

The project is set to delivered in two stages, with Stage 1 involving the construction of an abattoir with a projected capacity of 180,000 head of cattle per year and a feedlot with a capacity of 10,000 head.

Stage 2 will increase the abattoir capacity to 360,000 head of cattle per year and the feedlot capacity to up to 50,000 head.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, CNVM Investment Pty Ltd has remained committed to the project and hopes to receive approvals by December 2023 and commence construction work in 2024.

The company has appointed Australian-based experts, including project managers, designers, and consultants, to assist with the design and approval process.

Flinders Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Hari Boppudi expressed his delight with the news, saying that the proposed meat processing plant project will create up to 300 local and regional jobs and provide an economic boost to the region.

"This new industry will generate the need for housing stock, benefit local businesses, and require increased employee numbers in the health, education, and emergency services sectors," he said.

With the recent Queensland Government announcements for the North Queensland Super Hub and Copper String, Mr Boppudi said that Flinders Shire and the region are going through an intense phase of sustainable growth.

"Flinders Shire is a proactive Council which works with investors to bring investments to the region more readily and efficiently," he said.

Miao Wang, Managing Director of CNVM Investment Pty Ltd, said she was thrilled to see the proposed meat processing plant project advance to the FID stage for Stage 1 of construction.

"We are grateful for the support of Flinders Shire Council and look forward to working together to ensure the project's success," she said.

“The proposed meat processing plant project in Flinders Shire is expected to bring economic and social benefits to the region.”
