COUNCIL MEETING WRAP-UP | OCTOBER 2023

Key items discussed at the October 2023 Council meeting included:

• Council remembers Antony (Lofty) Palmer, Desmond Dowling, Edmond Hennessy, Margaret Esma Holden, Nora Dallow and Sharon Gunn. Our thoughts are with their family and friends during this time.
• Acknowledged the Queensland Government’s commitment to encouraging more cycling, with the release of the Queensland Cycling Action Plan, with consideration that our community may be able to look into the further development in this area.
• On account of the Local Government Elections being held on 16 March 2024, the Department forwarded correspondence highlighting Council’s ability to hold meetings in March. Council electing to hold their March meeting on 12 March 2024.
• Resolved to engage Andrews Town Planning to complete Major Amendment 1 – Shire of Flinders Planning Scheme.
• Adopted the Model Meeting Procedures Best Practice Standing Orders for Local Government and Standing Committee Meetings from the Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning.  
• Agreement to enter into a contract with the Education Department to purchase land located near the Caravan Park precinct.
• Council agrees to support the Lions Club of Hughenden by hosting donation boxes in the Council Office to support the 'Recycle for Sight Program' which collects old and unused glasses, hearing aids, and contact lenses to be restored and donated to third-world countries.
• Support given for the 2024 Hughenden Show, and 2023 Chamber of Commerce Christmas Party through sponsorship.
• Support given to the Lions Club of Hughenden Christmas Light Competition through a donation.
• Contribution of Sporting Excellence approved for Anjeleah Corrigan to attend the 2023 UniGames.
• Council commitment to work towards the erection of the windmill blade at the Hughenden Recreational Lake donated by Kennedy Energy Park.
