SO YOU WANT TO BE A COUNCILLOR? 

The Queensland Government is keen to build a strong local government sector where intending candidates have what they need to consider being a councillor. In preparation for the 2024 Local Government Elections being held on 16 March 2024, the Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning (the department) will be providing information sessions to support intending Mayor and Councillor candidates.

The sessions are scheduled for intending candidates to talk through information that may be helpful for them in deciding if they want to run for council. The sessions are not intended to be a substitute for the online mandatory So you want to be a councillor? training however departmental officers are able to provide assistance to any candidates who need support to complete the online training modules.

For candidates in the Flinders, Richmond and McKinlay Shires and surrounds, we have scheduled two information sessions to be held in Hughenden on Monday, 4 December 2023.

Session details are as follows:

  • Afternoon Session – 3:00pm to 5:00pm
  • Evening Session – 6.30pm to 8:30pm
